Communicate Between Devices

Devices on the same Mesh of Things network can communicate over private IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. Both addresses appear in the Devices table and on each device's detail page; they are not public internet addresses.

Before testing a connection, check that:

  • both devices belong to the same network;
  • neither device was provisioned with Isolate from other devices;
  • the destination device has a firewall group whose inbound rules allow the source and the required protocol and port; and
  • the service is listening on the destination device's mesh-facing network interface.

Then use the destination address shown in the dashboard, for example:

bash
ping 100.64.1.42
curl http://100.64.1.42:8080/my-app

If the device is offline, on another network, peer-isolated, or blocked by its inbound firewall, the connection will fail even though its private address remains visible in the dashboard.
